Local Governing Committees

Welcome from the Chair of the Trust Board

I am delighted to welcome you to the Local Governing Committee page of our Trust website.  I hope you find the content helpful and informative.

Local governance has been and remains an important factor in the success of the Trust, contributing to each of our 3 key broad priorities:

1)      Delivering excellent education for every pupil

2)      Enhancing the distinctively Christian character of our Church schools

3)      Ensuring sound financial management and effective use of public funds

But there is more to the role of our local governing committees than working with our staff to secure these ends.  One of the strengths of the Trust is the individual identity of each of our schools.  And, of course, local governance is vital to ensuring that each Trust school has deep roots in its community and serves local needs and aspirations in ways that work for the whole school community.

So, to all who serve as members of Local Governing Committees in Trust schools, a huge “thank you” for all you do for our schools and their communities, and for all this brings to the Trust.

The role of Local Governing Committees

The Trust operates Local Governing Committees (LGC's) through a Scheme of Delegation and provides a suggested termly workplan, in line with the Trust's calendar and statutory returns.

The membership of LGC's is currently transitioning from each school's status (Voluntary Controlled, Voluntary Aided, Community) prior to joining the Trust (and the level of support it requires once residing within the Trust) to a new standard format. The current membership of LGC's for each school can be found on individual school websites and will include staff and parent representation.

Members of the LGC's are appointed by the Trust and are expected to perform their duties in accordance with a Code of Conduct.

It situations where rapid improvement of a school is required the Trust may choose to put in place an Interim Academy Board to work alongside or replace the Local Governing Committee.
